Ellen Hopkins
Ellen Hopkins was raised in Palm Springs, CA, in a neighborhood filled with movie stars and entertainment icons. She was a straight A student all throughout high school, she found her love for writing in poetry as a young girl. She started freelancing newspaper and magazine articles, then children’s nonfiction, publishing twenty titles before She sold her first novel, crank, loosely based off of her daughters addiction to crystal meth (famousauthors.org). Crank was written as an effort the show outsiders looking in how easy it is to be dragged into drug addiction/abuse. Even the most high of students or those who you would never expect to become addicted to drugs, can become addicted to drugs.
